World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE) Fourth Thematic Session on Trade-Related Climate Measures

Cecilia Valeri Iribarren, PACT's Partnerships & Implementation Lead and member of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) Technical Working Group, presented an overview of the latest carbon accounting best practices. Our key asks to the WTO community were:

1. Build on existing voluntary standards to develop much needed trade policies to accelerate decarbonization.
2. Minimize transition costs for companies going from voluntary to mandatory GHG accounting requirements allowing greater focus towards decarbonization.
3. Prioritize interoperability amongst jurisdictions when defining GHG accounting regulations.

Supporting these three priorities has been PACT's mission since its inception. We are looking forward to continuing collaboration on this important topic.
